THE TWO TYPES OF SOLAR GEYSER SYSTEMS

In this system, water circulates directly through the solar collectors, absorbing heat. Subsequently, a pump transfers the heated water into the storage tank for usage.

Direct systems are simpler and more cost-effective to install because they do not require heat exchangers or heat transfer fluid. They are ideal for regions with reliable access to safe drinking water and where freeze protection is not a concern.

INDIRECT (CLOSED-LOOP) SOLAR GEYSER SYSTEM

Indirect solar geyser systems use a heat transfer fluid (a glycol-water mixture) to absorb heat in the solar collectors. This heated fluid is then transferred through a heat exchanger, where it releases its heat to the water stored in the tank. 

Indirect systems are best for areas with freezing temperatures as they provide freeze protection for the collectors and plumbing.

HOW DOES A SOLAR GEYSER WORK?

Solar geysers harness the sun’s energy to heat water. They are both cost-effective and eco-friendly.  But how does a solar geyser work? Read on!

A solar geyser works in the following way: water is stored in the panels of your solar geyser and energy from the sun heats the water.  As a result of convection, the water begins to circulate through the panels.  This means that as the water gets warmer it begins to rise and move into the water tank.  From here it moves into the cylinder.

The cooler water in the tanks moves downwards and into the absorber.  In this way, the water moves through your solar geyser due to convection.  

It’s important to remember that convection can not take place if your geyser is in the ceiling and at a lower level than the panels.  Consequently, you will need a circulating pump to move the water between the tank and the panels in this situation.

HOW LONG DOES A SOLAR GEYSER TAKE TO WARM UP?

Solar geysers offer an eco-friendly and cost-effective way to heat water using the power of the sun. However, one common question among users is how long does a solar geyser take to warm up and provide hot water. 

When warming your solar geyser entirely with the energy from the sun it takes approximately 4 to 5 hours to heat a 300-liter tank.  By contrast, an electric element geyser takes approximately 2 to 2½ hours to heat.
